Sofi Kozmetika is an independent niche cosmetic brand from Novi Sad, founded in 2009. Over the years, the brand has developed a distinctive identity and a contemporary approach to cosmetic formulations, design, and customer communication. With both product development and production closely connected to the brand itself, SOFI maintains a consistent vision throughout the entire process - from formulation to the final product and the way it is presented.
Since this store is very small, the functional logic of the space was our primary challenge, and we soon decided that it should be shaped around the customer’s experience inside the space. As a twist on conventional stores focused primarily on selling and exhibiting products, we proposed a new SOFI concept, in line with their intimate approach – focused on how clients feel inside the space, inviting them to spend some time here and ultimately come back. By adding a lounge zone in the window, open towards the entire store as well as the outside, we created a place that invites visitors to sit, slow down their usual day, spend some time here, read something, and explore the products through their senses.
The main inspiration behind the material selection came from Sofi’s brand identity and its approach to formulation, where naturally derived ingredients are combined with contemporary cosmetic raw materials. Rather than translating this relationship literally, the interior expresses it through textures, materials, and sensory experience – moving between smooth and delicate surfaces and those that feel raw, tactile, and more pronounced.
The raw brick ceiling dome was used as the starting point and focal element of the space, both as a visual dominant and as a reminder of the historical layers and previous lives of the building. It emphasizes the natural character of earthy materials – warm, heavy, stable, and tactile. As a contrast to the colorful and segmented brick ceiling dome, the floor is conceived as a single, homogeneous surface, cast in soft, gentle strokes of microcement. It is another earthy material, yet with an opposite character – smooth, soft, and uninterrupted.
Mirrors create a sense of movement as they catch and reflect light across their surfaces while visually expanding the space. They also offer the customer unexpected glimpses of themselves throughout the interior, especially the small mirror fragments placed on the ceiling. Very light, natural cotton curtains form a soft backdrop to the service area, adding depth, texture, and a sense of lightness to the space.
The color palette is built around neutral, natural tones inspired by creams and soaps – predominantly soft beige, meant to evoke a sense of cleanliness and calm. To introduce a playful and dynamic element, we introduced fresh turquoise-green accents inspired by the aloe vera plant, which is also a symbol of youth, health, and vitality.
